Edward Mycue

This was among the first images I made and since Ed was one of the few poets who actually still communicated with me occasionally by post, I thought it appropriate to begin the project with a card to him. The card is made from torn watercolor paper & the outer wrapper of a 50 lb bag of sunflower seeds.

Ed, it’s been a long time since I wrote a note to anyone in longhand & put it in the mail. I’m delighted that there is such a thing as email, but it lacks the sensuality of the pen. And I have always liked pens. Anyway, I spent the weekend making a bunch of these postcard-sized collages & have decided to start sending them to poets I know around the country with the idea of laying out a kind of informal poetics-by-postcard. I’ll scan all the cards front & back & they will wind up on the web eventually — but the first impulse will be hand-written. So: Thanks for Mindwalking a few weeks ago, which has taught me a lot about relaxing into the poem. More of these cards to follow. [April 7. 2008]
