Joseph Duemer is Professor of Literature Emeritus at Clarkson University in northern New York state. His most recent book of poems is Magical Thinking from Ohio State University Press. Since the mid-1990s he has spent a good deal of time in Vietnam, mostly Hanoi. He lives with his wife Carole & five terriers (four Jack Russells & one Patterdale) on the stony bank of the Raquette River in South Colton.

  1. Well, pretty bad, Peter. I have a cancer that can be slowed or stopped temporarily, but not eliminated. I’ll be posting some more detailed reports as my situation clarifies.

      1. Thanks, Peter. I appreciate it. I’ve been reciting the Heart Sutra myself, along with the Metta Sutra. I’ll know better how I’m doing after the first round of chemotherapy, which starts next week.

    1. Thanks, Ed. It’s just more life. It’s not what I would have chosen, obviously, but it’s what I’ve got. I’ll send you my first “cancer poem” in a couple of days–still revising.
