The Great Backyard Bird Count

It’s not too late to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count. Just count the birds where you are for a minimum of 15 minutes, then turn in your results at the site linked above. There is even help with identification. Useful information about bird population patters has been collected over the last few years using this data collection method. I didn’t get big numbers — I’ve seen more in recent days — but I watched the yard & feeders for under an hour & saw about a dozen chickadees, half-a-dozen juncos, a couple of different woodpeckers (hairy & downey), a couple of nuthatches, & some goldfinches. Oh, & four bluejays assing around in the trees down by the river. So, go count birds & participate in this _citizen science_ effort. Wikipedia has useful links to other citizen science projects.
